Yvonne Eure Aucoin, a respected educator and long-time resident of Virginia Beach, passed away on December 24, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer. She faced her illness with remarkable strength and dignity, buoyed by her deep faith in Jesus Christ. Aucoin was 79 years old at the time of her death.
Born on November 22, 1946, she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1964. Yvonne went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University and a master’s degree in mathematics from East Carolina University. Her passion for education spanned over five decades, during which she taught mathematics at institutions including Tidewater Community College (TCC), Old Dominion University (ODU), and Norfolk State University (NSU).
Aucoin was known for her dedication to her students, influencing countless lives with her discipline and encouragement. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom; she formed lifelong friendships with fellow educators and was actively involved in professional organizations such as Delta Kappa Gamma and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Yvonne is survived by her sisters-in-law, Anne Aucoin Jordan and Elizabeth Aucoin, as well as her stepchildren: Diane Aucoin Burkeen (Frank) from Culver, OR; David Aucoin (Lynne) from Fairfax, VA; William Aucoin (Dana) from Annapolis, MD; and Stacey Aucoin Baca (Robert) from Annapolis, MD. Additionally, she leaves behind several step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and she cherished her relationships with friends including Robert “Bob” Maynard and Jennifer Jordan Smith.
A devoted member of the Baylake United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach, Yvonne was active in her community. She prepared weekly lessons for the Friendship Sunday School Class, where she was highly regarded as a gifted teacher. Her contributions to mission and outreach ministries illustrated her commitment to helping others.
A memorial service is scheduled for January 18, 2026, at 2 PM, at Baylake United Methodist Church, located at 4300 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA. The service will be led by the Reverend David Edinger. A private burial has already taken place at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth, VA, where Yvonne was laid to rest alongside her parents and other family members.
