In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer provided insights into the current status of two prominent NXT stars, Oba Femi and Tony D’Angelo. Following his defeat at the hands of Ricky Saints for the NXT Championship at the No Mercy event last weekend, Femi is notably absent from the card for the upcoming NXT vs. TNA Showdown special scheduled for next Tuesday. This absence has fueled speculation that he may be transitioning to WWE’s main roster in the near future.
Meltzer addressed these speculations, emphasizing that, according to current information, there are still plans for Femi within NXT. He stated, “Regarding the idea Oba Femi lost the NXT title so he could be brought to the main roster, this is one of those things where the answer as far as everyone knows is no.” He further explained that WWE often keeps changes under wraps, leading to surprises for both fans and insiders alike. “However, they do swerve people and tell almost nobody about call-ups a lot of the time so people who should know get blindsided,” Meltzer added. “So it’s a no as far as just about anyone knows, but there is no such thing as a 100 percent no.”
Tony D’Angelo’s Status Explained
In addition to Femi, questions have arisen regarding Tony D’Angelo, who has not been seen in NXT since a dramatic cliffhanger reminiscent of the television series The Sopranos in July. Meltzer clarified that D’Angelo’s absence is not due to any injury but rather a personal request for time off. He noted, “Regarding the disappearance of Tony D’Angelo, it is not injury related but he asked for time off.”
As fans eagerly await further developments regarding both wrestlers, the situation highlights the often unpredictable nature of WWE’s talent management strategies. The retention of key talents like Femi and D’Angelo remains crucial as NXT continues to evolve and expand its roster.
With ongoing speculation surrounding their futures, both Oba Femi and Tony D’Angelo’s next moves will undoubtedly be closely monitored by fans and analysts alike.
