The Friends of the Library (FOL) at the Woodland Public Library are making a heartfelt appeal to the community to support their Bookshop, located in the library’s basement. With rising prices affecting many residents, the FOL offers an affordable solution through their extensive collection of gently used books. The shop features a diverse range of categories, including fiction, mystery, cooking, history, and biographies, alongside classics and award-winning titles.
According to Karen Shepard, a volunteer at the Bookshop, new donations arrive daily, yet there is a growing concern about the slowdown in contributions. “We welcome any gently used books from 2016 onwards,” she stated. However, the FOL does not accept encyclopedias, religious texts, or textbooks. Books published prior to 2016 are sent to Better World Books, which provides a modest stipend for the donations and attempts to sell them online. Additionally, books in poor but readable condition are offered to Goodwill Industries, while those that do not meet any criteria are recycled.
Supporting Community Programs Through Book Sales
The proceeds from sales at the FOL Bookshop directly support various adult and children’s programs at the library. This initiative not only provides the community with access to affordable reading materials but also enhances library services. The FOL encourages residents to visit the shop to explore its offerings and consider donating their own books to help maintain this valuable resource.
Books can be dropped off at the library during normal business hours, making it easy for community members to contribute. “I’m heading to my personal library now to gather some books to donate,” Shepard shared, urging others to do the same. “It’s a wonderful program to support, and you won’t have to worry about tariffs when you shop for books.” To learn more about the FOL Bookshop and how to donate, visit https://www.woodlandfol.org/.
The Woodland Public Library remains an essential hub for knowledge and community engagement. With the support of local residents, the FOL can continue to provide valuable resources and programs that benefit everyone.
