On October 23, 2023, NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull celebrated the opening of its newly renovated hemodialysis unit. This significant upgrade aims to enhance both patient comfort and clinical efficiency, showcasing a commitment to high-quality healthcare in Brooklyn.
Innovative Design and Enhanced Facilities
Spanning approximately 3,500 square feet, the redesigned hemodialysis suite features a fully reconfigured layout that optimizes patient flow. The unit now includes four dedicated hemodialysis bays, expanded utility and equipment rooms, as well as upgraded lighting and infrastructure. Enhanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, alongside improved water treatment facilities, have also been integrated to ensure reliability and safety for patients.
“This new area, in addition to being a life-sustaining treatment space, is also a location where our patients can receive compassionate, high-quality care,” said Althea Senior-Morris, Chief Nursing Officer at NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull. The hospital’s leadership emphasized that this renovation marks a significant step towards elevating care standards from “good to great” for the local community.
Commitment to Patient-Centered Care
The calming design of the suite, along with its modern equipment and patient-centered layout, plays a crucial role in delivering essential treatments in a dignified and supportive atmosphere. Verden Browne, Director of Nursing for Medical-Surgical Units and Hemodialysis, highlighted the importance of this new facility, stating, “The opening of this hemodialysis unit is a major milestone for the nursing staff to continue providing high-quality, life-saving care for our patients and the community we serve.”
Browne noted that the staff is eager to offer a space that combines advanced treatments and practices with compassionate patient and family education, helping individuals navigate every step of their medical journey.
This renovation not only reflects Woodhull’s dedication to enhancing healthcare services but also underscores the importance of creating an environment where patients feel valued and cared for during their treatment processes. The new hemodialysis suite stands as a testament to the hospital’s ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes for the community it serves.
