Wing Aviation LLC and Walmart Stores Inc. have announced plans to expand their drone delivery service to an additional 150 Walmart stores across the United States over the coming year. This initiative will enhance access to drone delivery for more than 40 million Americans. By 2027, the partnership aims to establish a network of over 270 drone delivery locations, stretching from Los Angeles to Miami.
Greg Cathey, Senior Vice President of Digital Fulfillment Transformation at Walmart, emphasized the importance of this service in meeting customer needs. “Drone delivery plays an important role in our ability to deliver what customers want, exactly when they want it,” he said. The service will launch in key metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami, with further locations to be announced.
The expansion builds on the success of Wing’s existing operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Metro Atlanta regions. Since starting deliveries in December 2024 in Dallas and December 2025 in Atlanta, Wing has reported significant customer engagement, with the top 25% of users ordering an average of three times a week. In the last six months of 2025, deliveries increased threefold compared to the first half of the year.
Future of Drone Delivery
Wing has ambitious plans for further expansion, having previously announced intentions to introduce drone services in cities such as Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa. Currently, Atlanta is the only city where the service is operational, though Wing is set to launch in Houston on January 15, 2026.
Adam Woodworth, CEO of Wing, highlighted the company’s commitment to providing rapid delivery solutions. “We’ve spent years building our technology to ensure that when you realize you’re out of eggs or need over-the-counter medicine, the solution is just a few taps away,” he stated. He added that partnering with Walmart has demonstrated the significant impact that swift delivery can have on families’ everyday lives.
Walmart’s collaboration with multiple drone providers is also noteworthy. Last year, the retailer welcomed Zipline, which launched a drone delivery site at Walmart stores in Mesquite and Waxahachie, Texas. This service offers a quieter alternative to traditional delivery trucks, further enhancing the customer experience.
Wing operates under the guidelines of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, allowing its drones to fly beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) within a radius of up to 6 miles (9.6 km) from the stores. The company has completed more than 400,000 commercial deliveries globally over the past five years, showcasing its ability to reliably transport small packages quickly.
The expansion of drone delivery services not only represents a significant step forward in retail logistics but also highlights the growing demand for innovative solutions in the face of evolving consumer expectations. As Walmart and Wing work to bring this technology to more communities, the potential for enhanced convenience and accessibility in shopping continues to expand.
