Wesley James Barton, a beloved member of the Kennebunk community, passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was 92 years old and left behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family and profession.

Early Life and Career

Barton was born on January 27, 1934, in Portland, Maine, to James and Frances Barton. He spent his formative years in the North Deering area, where he graduated from Deering High School in 1952. In 1954, he married Flossie Kidder, and together they raised their family in Cumberland.

His professional life was marked by a significant tenure of over 25 years as a Systems Analyst at Union Mutual (UNUM), where he contributed his expertise and dedication to the company.

Family and Legacy

Wesley is survived by his daughter, Lori Barton, and her husband, Bill Hickey. He also leaves behind his sons, James and Chris, along with their respective wives, Sandy and Lisa. His family includes nine grandchildren: Alex, Lindsey, Adam, Carolyn, Ashley, Elizabeth, Victoria, Erica, and Carolyn, as well as six great-grandchildren. He is also remembered by his sister, Mary Picavet, and several nieces and a nephew.

Barton was predeceased by his parents, James and Frances, as well as his brother, Gene, and brother-in-law, Kenneth Picavet.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and aides from the Hospice of Southern Maine for their compassionate care and support during his final days. In honor of Wesley, a private celebration of life will take place in the spring.
