According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall was announced on July 10, 2023, due to the risk of the bottle’s lid ejecting forcefully, potentially causing severe injuries to users.
The CPSC reported that there have been three documented incidents of injuries, including two cases where consumers suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the face by the cap. The commission has highlighted that the lid can eject under specific conditions, particularly when the bottle is opened after storing certain types of liquids, such as carbonated beverages or perishable items like juice and milk.

The recall specifically targets the Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottle. This product features a stainless-steel base with a silver finish and the Ozark Trail logo, accompanied by a black screw cap lid. The dimensions of the bottle are 4.41 x 4.41 x 11.5 inches. While the model number 83-662 is printed on the packaging, it is not found on the bottle itself. Since its introduction in 2017, this water bottle has been sold in Walmart stores and online for around $15.
The CPSC has urged consumers who own this particular water bottle to cease its use immediately. In order to receive a full refund, customers can return the product to any Walmart store.
