Virginia Ann Wilson passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, in her home in Grand Forks, North Dakota, surrounded by her children and the love of her faith. Born on June 23, 1938, she was the daughter of Maurice and Sophie (Reszka) Korynta. Her life was marked by deep commitment to family and community service.
On September 11, 1956, Virginia married Merle Wilson at St. Patrick’s Church in Minto, North Dakota. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to her family and church activities. Known affectionately as a domestic engineer, Virginia took great joy in preparing family meals, baking caramel rolls, and tending to her garden.
Community Contributions and Faith
Virginia was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church since 1956. Her contributions included serving as a liturgist, sacristan, and active volunteer. She played a vital role in the parish as a member of the funeral committee, the St. Mary’s Altar Society, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Her unwavering faith and strength made her a pillar in the community.
She is survived by her children: Greg (Lori) Wilson of Sedona, Arizona; Jeffrey (Carrie) Wilson, Janell (Dennis) Johnson, and Joanne Wilson, all of Grand Forks; and daughter-in-law Colleen Wilson from Gilbert, Arizona. Virginia also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, with two more expected this winter.
Virginia’s siblings, Daniel (Connie) Korynta and Ernie (Roxanne) Korynta, both of Grand Forks, along with Lenore (Ron) Houdek of Tolna, North Dakota, and Jean Johnson of Tacoma, Washington, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Wilson, and son, Randall Wilson, along with several other family members.
Family Appreciation and Memorial Arrangements
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical team at the Altru Cancer Center, particularly to Dr. Abdul Hannan, Nurse Practitioner Kayla Clausen, Annie Berginski, and Dr. Josh Deere, for their compassionate care. They also thank all who have supported Virginia and her family with prayers.
In accordance with Virginia’s wishes, memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Mary’s Sanctuary Restoration Project at 216 Belmont Road, Grand Forks, ND 58201, or to Sacred Heart School at 200 3rd Street NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721.
Visitation will take place from 16:00 to 18:00 on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the Amundson Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Forks, with a Rosary and Prayer Service starting at 18:00. Additional visitation is scheduled for 10:00 on Monday, July 21, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00. Virginia will be laid to rest at Memorial Park South Cemetery in Grand Forks.
