Vin Diesel is set to write, star in, and produce a live-action film based on the iconic toy franchise, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, in collaboration with Mattel. Following the success of the 2023 film Barbie, the toy company aims to capitalize on its growing cinematic universe.

The project will feature Diesel, known for his role in the Fast & Furious franchise, as both a writer and lead actor. He will bring to life the beloved characters Red Rocker and Blue Bomber, central to the tabletop boxing game that has entertained generations.

Vin Diesel expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I am excited to expand the Mattel universe by bringing this classic toy from my childhood to a modern audience.” He emphasized his intent to tell a story that explores competition in a world often dominated by strength. Diesel aims to reveal the underlying power of compassion within this narrative.

Collaboration with Mattel Studios

The film will be produced under Diesel’s One Race Films banner. Robbie Brenner, President of Mattel Studios and Chief Content Officer, will also be a producer. Brenner praised Diesel’s storytelling abilities, noting, “Vin is a powerhouse storyteller with an unmatched understanding of action, heart, and world-building.” He highlighted Diesel’s creative vision as “bold, human, and deeply cinematic,” aligning perfectly with the storytelling ethos at Mattel Studios.

In addition to this project, Mattel has been expanding its film portfolio. Earlier this year, it was announced that Jon M. Chu will direct a live-action film based on the Hot Wheels franchise. This trend reflects a strategic shift within the company, aiming to leverage its iconic brands for broader cinematic appeal.

As the project develops, fans of both Diesel and the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots franchise can anticipate a unique blend of action and heartfelt storytelling, marking yet another significant step for Mattel in the entertainment industry.
