Joseph C. Yedlock, a respected veteran and beloved community member, passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 94 in his home in Ashley, Pennsylvania. Yedlock was born on December 21, 1931, in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph and Agnes (Zugarek) Yedlock. His life was marked by service, dedication, and a passion for his family and community.
Yedlock graduated from Hanover Township High School in 1950, where he excelled in both baseball and football. Following his high school years, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, achieving the rank of First Sergeant and earning the National Defense Medal for his commitment to his country.
After his military service, Yedlock worked as an export shipper for Dana Perfume until his retirement. He actively participated in various community organizations, including St. Leo the Great Church in Ashley. As a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #12089, he contributed to his church and local initiatives, often volunteering at events and church festivals.
Family Life and Community Engagement
Yedlock was deeply involved in his children’s education, serving as a member of the former Bishop Hoban High School Father’s Club. He worked security at many football and basketball games, fostering a sense of camaraderie among parents and students alike. His passion for sports extended beyond his children’s activities; he played on several championship fast-pitch softball teams during his younger years and was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Penn State, Notre Dame, and UConn Women’s Basketball.
His family was central to his life. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Constance (Morris) Yedlock, and an infant daughter, Linda Marie Yedlock. He is survived by his son, Joseph A. Yedlock (Robin) of Hanover Township, daughters Deborah Glidden (Randall) of Winter Park, Florida, and Lynn Cole of Ashley, Pennsylvania. He also leaves behind four granddaughters, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Yedlock’s impact on those around him extended beyond his family. He was known for his generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand, particularly during church functions and community gatherings. Fishing trips with friends were another cherished pastime, offering him moments of relaxation and camaraderie.
Funeral Arrangements and Community Tribute
Funeral services for Joseph C. Yedlock will take place on February 20, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home located at 105 North Main Street, Ashley. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo the Great Parish, with Reverend Vincent Dang officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on February 19, 2026, from 16:00 to 19:00, and again on the morning of the service from 08:30 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Yedlock’s memory can be made to the St. Leo the Great Food Pantry.
