Vantage Foundation Supports Kechara Soup Kitchen in Community Food Aid Initiative in Kuala Lumpur

The Vantage Foundation has announced a new initiative aimed at addressing food insecurity in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, through a partnership with the Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK). This collaboration, which took place on November 18, 2025, involved Vantage Foundation volunteers working closely with KSK to provide essential food aid to vulnerable communities.

Supporting Vulnerable Communities

Kechara Soup Kitchen has been dedicated to serving marginalized populations, including the urban poor, rural communities, and the Orang Asli, for over 17 years. The organization employs a multi-faceted approach that includes its Food Bank, empowerment programs, and a soup kitchen. Guided by the motto “Hunger Knows No Barriers,” KSK aims to alleviate hunger and support families in need.

The outreach event was held at the Kechara Food Bank in Setapak, a pivotal hub for storing, organizing, and distributing essential dry goods and daily necessities. Ten volunteers from the Vantage Foundation participated in the program, collaborating with KSK staff to prepare and deliver food aid packs. They visited six registered households in Cheras and Jinjang, which were identified by KSK as part of vulnerable groups affected by urban poverty.

Impact of Food Deliveries

The beneficiaries included families experiencing economic hardships, households with disabled members, and elderly individuals living alone without family support. These visits provided volunteers with a firsthand understanding of food insecurity in urban Malaysia. Many families depend on monthly assistance to meet their basic needs, and the food deliveries ensured access to crucial items such as rice, canned food, hygiene products, and other daily necessities.

“Participating in this outreach allowed us to better understand the structural challenges faced by vulnerable communities in Kuala Lumpur,” said Steven Xie, Executive Director of Vantage Foundation. “It was a humbling reminder that small acts of service can create meaningful impact when directed to those who need it most.”

The Vantage Foundation, established in 2023 at the McLaren Technology Centre in the UK, has partnered with various organizations globally. Its collaboration with KSK aligns with the foundation’s mission to drive positive social change. Other notable partnerships include organizations like Grab Indonesia, the iREDE Foundation in Nigeria, Teach for Malaysia, and Instituto Claret in Brazil.

The Kechara Food Bank plays a crucial role in KSK’s mission to prevent at-risk individuals and families from becoming homeless. Unlike KSK’s traditional soup kitchen, which provides hot meals and medical care to the homeless, the Food Bank focuses on supplying dry goods and essential items to stabilize living conditions for marginalized families.
