The United Talent Agency (UTA) has officially signed British comedian Simon Brodkin, recognizing him as “one of the U.K.’s most exciting stand-up comedians.” This partnership aims to expand Brodkin’s reach in international markets, particularly in the United States, as he continues to build on his already impressive career.
Brodkin has gained popularity for his unique brand of comedy, which includes memorable characters like the outrageous “comedy legend” Lee Nelson and football star Jason Bent. His talent extends beyond stand-up; he is also known for his high-profile pranks involving notable figures such as Donald Trump, Kanye West, and former FIFA president Sepp Blatter.
Success on Stage and Screen
In recent years, Brodkin’s career has seen significant growth, particularly highlighted by his 170-date international “Screwed Up” tour, which was extended four times due to overwhelming ticket demand. Notably, he performed at the prestigious Royal Variety Performance, attended by Prince William and Kate Middleton. His stand-up special, also titled “Screwed Up,” premiered on YouTube and became the most viewed U.K. special on the platform.
Brodkin’s ability to connect with audiences is evident, as his stand-up clips often garner millions of views online. According to Bjorn Wentlandt, UTA’s London-based comedy touring agent, “We’re very excited to work with Simon, who is truly in the Premier League of U.K. stand-ups.” Wentlandt expressed optimism for a long-term collaboration, citing Brodkin’s relentless ascent in the comedy scene.
Aiming for Global Reach
Brodkin expressed his desire for elite representation, stating, “I wanted elite level representation for my international tours, and with Bjorn and UTA, I have signed with the best in class.” The partnership is set to leverage UTA’s extensive comedy touring department, which has over 20 staff members in offices located in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, and London.
Known as “the world’s most famous blagger,” Brodkin has a history of orchestrating satirical hoaxes involving prominent personalities. In June 2016, he made headlines by crashing the reopening of the Trump Turnberry golf resort in Scotland, distributing golf balls labeled with red swastikas. His antics continued in October 2017 when he interrupted then-U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May during her Conservative Party conference speech, presenting her with a mock employment termination form amidst rumours of leadership challenges.
Brodkin’s previous performances include showering Sepp Blatter with fake dollar bills during a FIFA event and sharing the stage with Kanye West at the Glastonbury Festival. His signing with UTA adds him to a growing roster of international comedians, which includes talents like Celeste Barber, Zakir Khan, and Vir Das.
As UTA embarks on this collaboration, the agency is poised to support Brodkin in navigating the global comedy landscape, ensuring that his unique voice continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
