UPDATE: Travelers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) will experience a stunning transformation this holiday season as renovations at Terminal 1 are now complete. The $242 million project, a collaborative effort between the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) and Delta Air Lines, brings a modern and brighter aesthetic to one of the busiest terminals in the country.
The renovations, which began in the fall of 2023, enhance the overall passenger experience with improved lighting and updated interiors across six of the terminal’s seven concourses. Delta, which commands a 70% passenger market share at MSP, has been pivotal in this transformation, managing the project to ensure a “unified and modern design” throughout all 75 Delta gate hold rooms.
“This major renovation elevates the passenger experience from the checkpoints to the gate areas,” said Brian Ryks, CEO of the MAC. He emphasized the importance of Delta’s partnership in delivering these modern spaces, enhancing MSP’s reputation for award-winning customer service.
Key enhancements include new terrazzo flooring, upgraded wall finishes, and the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures. Additionally, Delta’s gate areas underwent a complete refresh, featuring new seating, carpeting, counters, and signage. The introduction of “dynamic gate signs” will enable travelers to obtain flight and destination information swiftly from various points along the concourse.
This renovation coincides with the completion of the Airport Modernization Program, a decade-long initiative that invested $182.5 million to expand and modernize pre-security areas, including checkpoints, ticketing, and baggage claim. Delta contributed $60 million to this effort, further solidifying its commitment to enhancing the travel experience at MSP.
