UPDATE: A 47-year-old man from South Euclid was arrested for driving under the influence after a dramatic hit-and-run incident late last night on December 3, 2023. The police responded to reports of a two-car crash at 10:30 p.m. on Mayfield Road, right in front of the Walgreens store.

Witnesses told officers that the driver, in a white Toyota, exhibited signs of intoxication before fleeing the scene. Thanks to swift police action, the suspect’s vehicle was located and pulled over at 1443 Richmond Road, in front of a CVS/Pharmacy. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers confirmed the driver was intoxicated and arrested him for OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) and hit-skip. He refused to take a breath test.

This incident raises serious concerns about road safety in the area, especially as authorities continue to combat drunk driving.

In a separate incident, police are investigating a theft reported on December 6 at L.L. Bean on Cedar Road. Loss prevention personnel identified a suspect, a 65-year-old man from Cleveland, who allegedly stole merchandise valued at $1,020. Charges have yet to be filed as the investigation is still ongoing.

Further complicating the situation, a police report from December 1 revealed that fraudulent checks totaling $931.64 were written from the business account of The Makeup Institute on Mayfield Road. Officials are actively pursuing leads in this fraud case.

Meanwhile, on December 2, police responded to a concerning domestic situation on Kilbourne Drive. An open line to 911 revealed a woman urging her husband to “put the gun down.” Quick action by police led to the husband being taken for evaluation at MetroHealth Hospital. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

In a different case on December 4, officers assisted a 56-year-old woman whose husband was intoxicated and out of control. The man was supposed to enter a rehabilitation program that day but refused police assistance. Officers advised his wife to reach out again if needed, although no further calls were made.

Additionally, on December 5, three juveniles attempted to steal items from Dick’s Sporting Goods at Legacy Village but fled the scene when approached. Police apprehended the boys nearby; however, they were not charged as it was determined no theft occurred.
