URGENT UPDATE: Nearly 3,000 residents in Nevada County are currently without power as severe lightning strikes hit the area. As of 9:30 p.m. on July 25, PG&E reported 2,881 customers affected. The outages, primarily in unincorporated regions, have shown some improvement, dropping to about 2,237 customers affected by 9:52 p.m.

The outages coincide with the Bitney Fire, which erupted near Lake Wildwood around 7:45 p.m. on Bitney Springs Road. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the fire has burned several acres, prompting the evacuation of 70 homes in the vicinity. Fortunately, officials reported that forward progress on the fire has been halted.

Residents shared alarming footage of the fire’s orange glow threatening homes along a hillside. As the situation develops, KCRA 3 is actively seeking updates from PG&E, but no specific cause for the outages or the fire has been confirmed.

The region has been experiencing heightened lightning activity, raising concerns for the safety and well-being of the community. An estimated time for power restoration has yet to be provided, leaving many residents anxious and without critical services.
