UPDATE: An alarming surge in crime has struck Salisbury, with multiple incidents reported between January 15 and January 21, 2023. Authorities confirm a series of thefts, assaults, and even arson, raising concerns among residents.
In a span of just a few days, the Salisbury Police Department documented a hit-and-run causing property damage in the 500 block of Lash Drive between 10 p.m. on January 15 and 9:06 a.m. on January 16. The total estimated damage remains under investigation, but the incident has left many feeling unsettled.
A burglary was reported in the 300 block of South West Street on January 16, with losses estimated at $400. Just hours later, at 4 p.m., police arrested a driver for intoxication in the 800 block of East Innes Street, highlighting the dangers on local roads.
Shoplifting incidents have surged, particularly in the 300 block of South Arlington Street, where thefts occurred almost daily, including losses of $206 and $343. On January 18 alone, multiple shoplifting reports were filed, with losses ranging from $7 to $343.
Adding to the chaos, a serious incident of vandalism occurred in the 200 block of East 11th Street at 5:45 a.m. on January 17, followed by a report of fraud estimated at $1,3001100 block of Crosby Street early on January 21, where a vehicle was deliberately set on fire. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as authorities work to investigate these troubling incidents.
In related news, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating additional crimes, including a reported rape that occurred in the 600 block of Cedar Drive between January 18 and January 19. The investigation has prompted heightened awareness in the community.
