URGENT UPDATE: The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has issued a critical call for public assistance in identifying potential victims of a rental fraud scheme. Detectives are investigating a man, known only as Igor, who allegedly used stolen identification to fraudulently rent apartments in Los Angeles.
In a news release posted just moments ago, LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division revealed that the suspect applied to rent two apartments, one located in Hollywood and another in the Larchmont area. Authorities confirmed that Igor utilized the personal identification information of others to complete rental applications, alongside presenting counterfeit cashier’s checks to property management companies.
The LAPD has released a photo of the suspect to aid in the investigation, emphasizing their belief that there may be additional victims, including rental and property management companies that may have been targeted.
“Detectives are releasing the suspect’s photo because they believe there may be additional victims,” authorities stated.
Igor is described as a Black adult male with dreadlocks and a beard or goatee. Anyone who suspects they have been victimized by this man is strongly encouraged to come forward.
