URGENT UPDATE: Fallon is buzzing with back-to-back art events, showcasing local talent and cultural experiences that you won’t want to miss!
On January 23 at 5 p.m., the Oats Park Art Center will host a gallery reception for renowned artist Patrick Kikut. Kikut, known for his stunning landscapes, has dedicated the last 35 years to exploring the less protected environments spanning from Great Falls, Montana to El Paso, Texas. His work not only reflects the beauty of these regions but also highlights the urgent need to preserve these landscapes amid ongoing development cycles.
Following Kikut’s reception, a book signing event will take place at His Inspirations, located at 200 S. Maine St., on January 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Four local authors will present their work, including Robert Kahn, author of “Bobby and Mandee’s Street Smart,” and Bill Slentz, who wrote and illustrated “Arnold A. Airplane.” Notably, Aaron McBride will discuss his personal testimony in “When the Desert Bloom,” while local journalists Ken Beaton, Steve Ranson, and David C. Henley will present “Legacies of the Silver State,” a compilation of over 70 stories honoring Nevada veterans from World War II.
Looking ahead, the Churchill County Museum is set to kick off its Young Chautauqua Program for youth aged 12-18 starting February 4. Free classes will run every Wednesday from 3:30-5 p.m. until April 18. Under the guidance of instructor Glen Perazzo, participants will research historical figures and craft compelling monologues, focusing this year on local literary icons.
In a not-to-miss performance, Scottish singer Julie Fowlis will grace the stage at the Barkley Theatre on February 7. Known for her award-winning music influenced by her Hebridean roots, Fowlis recently won Musician of the Year at the 2023 Scots Trad Music Awards. She is also renowned for singing the theme songs to Disney Pixar’s “Brave,” with one of them long-listed for an Oscar.
These events not only spotlight local artistry but also enrich the cultural fabric of Fallon, making them essential experiences for residents and visitors alike.
