BREAKING NEWS: Roy P. Fischer, a beloved educator and community leader from Uniontown, PA, has passed away at the age of 79. He died peacefully at home on July 24, 2025, surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.

Fischer was known for his faith and commitment to teaching, having inspired countless students during his tenure at the Laurel Highlands School District. As a graduate of South Union High School in 1964, he went on to earn a teaching degree from California University and pursued postgraduate studies at Penn State University and West Virginia University.

His contributions extended beyond the classroom. Fischer was an active member of the Third Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and played a pivotal role as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 608. He also founded the Laurel Highlands Jumonville Outdoor School, emphasizing outdoor education and community engagement.

“Roy touched the lives of so many with his kindness and dedication to education,” said a family member. “He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”

Fischer’s passing is a significant loss for the Uniontown community. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Linda Reitz Fischer, and five children: David, Donald, Matthew, Laura, and Holly, along with numerous grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation at the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home & Crematories, Inc. on July 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.. A memorial service will be held on July 28 at 10 a.m. at Abundant Life Church, officiated by Pastor Garrett Howard and Pastor Mac Reed.

Following the service, interment will take place at Sylvan Heights Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roy’s memory can be made to the Laurel Highlands Academic Foundation for the Jumonville Outdoor School, care of Joanne Phillian, 70 Wiggins Lane, Uniontown PA 15401.
