Two men face serious charges following a shooting incident at a woman’s home in Glenburn, Maine, on Sunday. The suspects, identified as George Overlock, 36, from Carmel, and Raphael Cupidon, 22, from Massachusetts, allegedly opened fire on a residence and a vehicle parked outside around 15:10 local time.
According to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Overlock has been charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated drug trafficking, possession of firearms by a prohibited person, and several traffic-related violations. Cupidon has been charged with aggravated drug trafficking and refusal to submit to arrest or detention.
Witnesses reported seeing Overlock, Cupidon, and at least one additional individual wearing ski masks during the incident. Fortunately, no one inside the home was injured, but the incident has raised significant concerns in the local community.
Shortly after the shooting, deputies located the suspects fleeing in a truck on Union Street in Hermon. Overlock, who was driving the vehicle, attempted to evade law enforcement, leading officers on a pursuit that traversed Davis Road in Bangor and Finson Road. The chase culminated when the vehicle slowed, prompting Cupidon and another individual to exit and flee on foot.
Overlock abandoned the truck and sought refuge by breaking into a home on Lake View Road. When deputies arrived to apprehend him, he reportedly resisted arrest. During this break-in, the homeowners’ dog, a nine-year-old English mastiff named Rosie, escaped and has not been located since. The homeowners were away from the property at the time of the incident.
Law enforcement utilized police dogs to track Cupidon, who fled through nearby woods. He was eventually found hiding under a mobile home. The investigation has led to the execution of search warrants in Bangor and Hampden, resulting in the seizure of half a kilo of drugs and two handguns.
The sheriff’s office has stated that officers are actively searching for additional individuals involved in the shooting. “No additional information will be provided at this time to avoid compromising the investigation,” the office announced on Monday.
This incident underscores ongoing concerns regarding firearms and drug-related violence in the region, prompting local officials and law enforcement to seek community cooperation in addressing these issues.
