Former President Donald Trump addressed the controversy surrounding a letter he allegedly sent to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein for Epstein’s 50th birthday, referring to the matter as a “dead issue.” During an interview with NBC News on Tuesday, Trump stated, “I don’t comment on something that’s a dead issue,” emphasizing his disinterest in further discussing the topic.

The letter in question, which was released by the House Oversight Committee, dates back to 2003. It features a message formatted as a dialogue between Trump and Epstein, implying that they “have certain things in common.” The letter concludes with an ambiguous sentiment: “A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday—and may every day be another wonderful secret.”

The Wall Street Journal reported in July that Trump had written this letter as a birthday gift for Epstein. Trump has since denied authorship of the letter and initiated legal action against the publication for reporting on it.

Some members of Trump’s inner circle have questioned the authenticity of the signature on the released letter. Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary, asserted, “As I have said all along, it’s very clear President Trump did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it.” She added that Trump’s legal team would continue to pursue litigation regarding the letter’s publication.

Despite the ongoing discussions surrounding the letter, Trump maintained his position, reiterating that he had provided all necessary comments to his staff and would not engage further on what he considers a non-issue.
