U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced significant progress in discussions regarding a peace plan for Ukraine following a meeting at Mar-a-Lago on Sunday. The two leaders emphasized that they are nearing a consensus on a proposed 20-point peace framework aimed at ending the ongoing conflict initiated by Russia.

During the two-and-a-half-hour meeting, President Trump described the conversations as “good and very productive.” He noted that they had also engaged with leaders from several European nations, including France, Finland, Poland, Norway, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany, as well as representatives from NATO and the European Commission. These discussions reflect a collaborative effort to formulate a strategy for peace in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the advancements made by both American and Ukrainian delegates. He highlighted that they are currently at “90% agreement” on the proposed peace plan, with a strong focus on ensuring security guarantees for Ukraine. When asked about the United States’ commitments to Ukraine, Trump stated, “We want to work with Europe, and Europe is going to take over a big part of it, as you can imagine, they’re right there.”

Territorial issues concerning the Donbas region emerged as a challenging topic during their discussions. Trump acknowledged that some land has been occupied, while other areas may be “up for grabs.” The complexity of these territorial disputes underscores the difficulties in achieving a comprehensive peace agreement.

While addressing the potential timeline for concluding the conflict, Trump suggested that if negotiations progress favorably, a resolution could be reached in a matter of weeks. “In a few weeks, we may know one way or the other,” he remarked, although he cautioned that outcomes could vary significantly.

The meeting also included prominent members of both delegations, such as White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Trump’s remarks prior to the meeting did not specify a deadline for reaching a peace agreement, focusing instead on the overarching goal of ending the war.

The collaborative discussions between the U.S. and Ukraine signify a notable step towards resolving the conflict that has had lasting implications on regional stability and international relations. As the situation develops, the coming months may reveal whether the proposed peace plan will materialize into a lasting agreement.
