UPDATE: Residents from Tremont to Halifax have a vital resource at their fingertips as the Paws for a Cause Pantry expands its offerings to support families in need. Located at 729 East Grand Ave., Tower City, this nonprofit organization is breaking barriers by providing essential goods and pet supplies, regardless of income, with services available twice a month.
Since its grand opening in April 2023, the pantry has transformed the lives of many, alleviating the financial strain of grocery shopping. Founder and president Angie Bixler emphasizes the pantry’s mission: “We don’t check income because everyone needs a break.” This compassionate approach ensures that all community members can access much-needed resources.
Visitors can expect to find a wide array of items at the pantry, from breakfast foods and pet supplies to batteries and personal hygiene products. A recent stop by the pantry revealed a stock of over 25 volunteers, including longtime members like Ed Hause and Margie Koons, dedicated to helping others.
The pantry operates on the first Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon and 5 to 7 p.m., and on the third Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. Additionally, it supports community outreach events such as the upcoming pet vaccine clinic running from September 6 to November 1 for dogs and cats.
The pantry is more than just a place to obtain groceries; it is a hub of support for families and pet owners. Local resident Ellen Tsopp shared her experience, stating, “It has helped me with getting sugar, detergent and pet food. It is wonderful for pet food.” Another patron, Shelley Starr, who has utilized the pantry since 2020, expressed the importance of spreading the word: “It’s just a really good thing for the community.”
Inside the repurposed furniture store, Bixler greets visitors at the front desk, where a suggested donation of $10 helps cover operational costs. The pantry’s diverse inventory, including unique items like motor oil and seasonal goods, is made possible through generous donations that keep its shelves stocked.
As the pantry continues to grow, community engagement remains strong. Bixler and her team are committed to ensuring that no one in the community goes without essential items. The pantry’s motto, “Bringing Unity to the Community,” resonates deeply as it serves as a beacon of hope for many.
For those who need assistance, the Paws for a Cause Pantry stands ready to provide help. Make sure to spread the word about this vital resource, and consider visiting to support the cause or donate items to assist your neighbors in need. This is a developing story, and updates will follow as the pantry continues its mission to uplift the community.
