UPDATE: Tifton’s Best Running is set to host the inaugural Chase the Turkey 5K this weekend, marking a new Thanksgiving tradition for the community. The race kicks off at 7:30 a.m. on November 15, starting at Tifton City Hall and winding through the heart of Tifton.
This exciting event is designed to bring residents together in celebration of community spirit, featuring a scenic route that showcases Historic Tifton and beloved neighborhoods. Runners will be chasing not just each other, but also participants dressed in turkey-themed attire, adding a festive twist to the run.
Don Boraowski, owner of Tifton’s Best Running, has long envisioned this event, having pursued its introduction for over two years. Inspired by a similar race his sister store in Statesboro has hosted for more than a decade, Boraowski aims to foster a sense of togetherness and support for Tifton’s vibrant community.
In addition to the race, Boraowski is giving back by donating 40 pairs of brand-new Brooks running shoes to the nonprofit organization Called to Care. Runners will also compete for turkey trophies, awarded to the top finishers in various categories, including the best male and female runners under and over 40, as well as the top three runners in each five-year age group from ages ten and under to over 60.
After crossing the finish line, participants are encouraged to explore Tifton’s downtown area. Shops along Main Street will be open, and the Fall Farmer’s Market will be setting up just as the race concludes, making for a perfect post-run outing.
Boraowski hopes the Chase the Turkey 5K becomes an annual highlight in Tifton’s fall events calendar, emphasizing community engagement and spirit.
