The incident, which took place on October 18, 2025, at Rene’s Bakery on Whittier Boulevard, was captured on the store’s security cameras, revealing a calculated crime that has left the local community outraged.
Surveillance footage shows a woman in a dark hoodie and sunglasses who, after making a small cash purchase, swiftly snatched the wireless card reader from the counter while the cashier was distracted. In less than 15 seconds, she pocketed the device and walked out as if nothing happened. Owner Rene Ocampo expressed his frustration, stating, “It’s not fair that the alleged thief is now benefitting from my hard work.”
Ocampo, who has operated the bakery for four years, believes the theft was premeditated. “She paid in cash to avoid leaving a digital footprint. Giselle Lopez, a representative from Metro by T-Mobile, described the chaotic scene: “That truck came at about one in the morning. He broke into it but left once he heard the alarm.”
