European cyclocross champion Thibau Nys of Baloise Glowi Lions opened his 2025-26 cyclocross season with an impressive solo victory at the Koppenbergcross, the inaugural round of the X2O Trofee. After concluding his road racing season in August, the 22-year-old Nys aimed for an extensive cyclocross campaign, opting to miss only the first two weekends of racing before securing his first win.

On the second lap of the race, Nys surged ahead of the pack, establishing a commanding lead. British champion Cameron Mason, racing for Seven Racing, initially challenged him but soon fell behind. Nys showcased his strength as he climbed the historic Koppenberg, waving to enthusiastic fans before crossing the finish line with his arms raised in triumph.

Mason, who faced a setback when he broke his shoe after a fall at the end of lap four, managed to secure second place, finishing the race 21 seconds behind Nys. Completing the podium was Belgian rider Pim Ronhaar, also from Baloise Glowi Lions, who crossed the line 1 minute and 44 seconds after Nys.

The Koppenbergcross, known for its challenging course and enthusiastic spectators, set the stage for what promises to be an exciting cyclocross season. Nys’s dominant performance not only highlights his preparation and skill but also positions him as a formidable contender in the upcoming races.

As the season progresses, fans and competitors alike will be watching closely to see how Nys builds on this early success. With the next rounds of the X2O Trofee on the horizon, anticipation is building for more thrilling races.
