Thailand’s Creative Economy Agency (CEA) has announced the launch of its second Content Project Market, set to take place from September 10-12, 2023, at Bangkok’s True Digital Park. This initiative aims to connect over 70 investors with Thai filmmakers, screenwriters, and animators, facilitating a direct pathway for project pitches to production houses, content investors, distributors, and streaming platforms both locally and internationally.

The Content Project Market will feature a variety of activities, including project pitching sessions, B2B business matching, and networking receptions. Additionally, there will be industry forums led by both Thai and international experts, accessible to content professionals and the general public interested in the media landscape. The CEA’s executive director, Chakrit Pichyangkul, emphasized that this market is not merely an event but a strategic move towards building a sustainable ecosystem for Thai content creators.

“By connecting talent with funding and commercial platforms, we are opening doors for projects to progress into production while elevating the standard of Thai content to compete on the global stage,” Pichyangkul stated. This initiative aligns with Thailand’s broader strategy to enhance its soft power, reinforcing its position as a burgeoning creative hub in Southeast Asia.

Pichyangkul also highlighted the economic potential of Thai content, stating that it goes beyond entertainment. “Thai films and series have the power to attract international tourists and drive demand for Thai products and services featured in global content,” he noted. This event is seen as a vital opportunity to increase the visibility of Thai content creators and serve as a strategic driver for the long-term development of the nation’s creative economy.

A total of 54 creative teams will showcase their projects at the market. Among them, 34 teams have been selected from CEA’s Content Lab 2025 project, which consists of three specialized programs. These include: Mid-Career: Project for established creators developing content for international markets; Mid-Career: Story for screenwriters creating commercially viable scripts; and Mid-Career: Animation for creators preparing Thai animations for production. An additional 20 professional content teams were chosen through an open call process.

The CEA operates as a public agency under the supervision of the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand. Its mission is to foster balanced and sustainable growth within the country’s creative economy by promoting the integration of creativity and innovation into production, thereby enhancing the value of goods, services, and cultural capital.

This second iteration of the Content Project Market is poised to further elevate Thailand’s creative industries and provide a platform for local talent to thrive in an increasingly competitive global market.
