TeKnowledge, a major technology employer in El Paso County, is set to reduce its workforce by 324 positions in Colorado Springs. This significant job cut was disclosed in a letter filed with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment on October 27, 2023. The company has cited shifts in industry priorities and demand as the driving forces behind this decision.
In a statement, company spokesman Iman Ghorayeb emphasized the need to realign operations to better meet evolving client needs. He stated, “Unfortunately, this includes changes to our workforce structure.” The company, which rebranded from Tek Experts in April, employs over 6,000 workers across 19 global locations, including Nigeria, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. While TeKnowledge does not maintain a single headquarters, its Colorado Springs facility is one of its largest U.S. operations, reportedly housing more than 600 employees.
Details of Job Reductions
The layoffs will occur at TeKnowledge OPS USA Inc., located at 1150 Kelly Johnson Blvd. The affected employees will receive termination notices between October 30 and December 30. The roles being eliminated include 120 stage two technical support engineers, 41 reactive support managers, and 31 fintech analysts.
Ghorayeb expressed appreciation for the contributions of those impacted, stating that the company is committed to providing support during this transition. “We deeply appreciate the contributions of those impacted and are committed to supporting them with respect, care, and practical assistance,” he said. The company aims to maintain its focus on delivering AI-first technology services to its global clientele despite the workforce reductions.
Impact on Local Employment Landscape
TeKnowledge ranks among the top five technology employers in Colorado Springs and will remain within the top ten following the job cuts. The local job market faces additional challenges as the Trump Administration announced plans to relocate the headquarters of U.S. Space Command from Colorado Springs to Huntsville, Alabama. This move could potentially result in the loss of 1,400 jobs and approximately $1 billion in economic activity annually for the region.
As TeKnowledge continues its operations in Colorado, Ghorayeb highlighted the advantages of the Colorado Springs location. He noted, “Colorado Springs has consistently proven to be an outstanding location for delivering our services—thanks to its exceptional talent pool, strong community spirit, and supportive business environment.” The company’s commitment to the region remains strong, even as it navigates these workforce changes.
The broader implications of these layoffs and the relocation of other significant employers will be closely monitored by local officials and economic analysts as they assess the future of job opportunities in Colorado Springs.
