A recent study commissioned by Tavo Pets, in collaboration with the global data platform Statista, surveyed 5,000 pet owners across ten countries. The findings revealed alarming statistics regarding pet safety during travel. Many pet owners fail to secure their pets properly while driving, exposing them to significant risks. An unrestrained pet can become a projectile during a collision, exerting a force 30 to 60 times its body weight. For example, a 30 lb. dog can generate a force of at least 900 lbs. in the event of an accident, posing life-threatening risks to both the pet and other passengers.

Caitlin Taylor, Road Safety Manager at The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in Edinburgh, Scotland, added, “People don’t think they’ll be involved in a collision—until they are. They don’t fully appreciate how dangerous it can be if your dog is not restrained and how dangerous distractions can be while driving.”
