The Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) has imposed sanctions on the football and volleyball programs of Holy Cross High School in San Antonio due to violations of league rules. The penalties follow findings that the football team used an unauthorized electronic earpiece during a game against the Geneva School of Boerne.
TAPPS prohibits electronic communication between players and coaches during games. Following a meeting on Monday, the organization announced the penalties on Wednesday afternoon. The Holy Cross football program, coached by Mike Harrison, will be placed on probation until June 30, 2027. Harrison, along with assistant coach Roy Salas and athletic director Angel Cedillo, received public reprimands. Harrison and Salas will also serve suspensions for three regular-season games. Furthermore, the Knights must forfeit all games in which the unapproved equipment was used.
In addition to the football sanctions, the Holy Cross volleyball program faced its own set of penalties for breaching coaching restrictions. Athletic director Cedillo, along with coaches Melissa Hinojosa and Daniel Hinojosa, were publicly reprimanded as well. Both Hinojosa coaches are suspended from coaching duties and will not be eligible for reinstatement until they appear before the TAPPS Executive Board. Requests for reinstatement will not be considered before June 2027.
Both programs are now on probation through June 30, 2027, as TAPPS aims to ensure compliance with its regulations. The sanctions highlight the organization’s commitment to maintaining fair play and integrity within its leagues.
