UPDATE: San Jose Police have arrested Yessenia Estrada in connection with a deadly arson that resulted in the city’s 14th homicide of the year. The arrest took place on Tuesday, following a tragic blaze early Monday morning that claimed one life.

At approximately 3:58 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to reports of a fire at a commercial building located in the 200 block of North 27th Street. Upon arrival, authorities determined that the fire was likely caused by arson. The investigation quickly escalated as San Jose Fire Department (SJFD) arson investigators joined the scene.

Police reports indicate that an employee, who was supposed to be inside the building at the time of the fire, could not be located. Due to the building’s instability, a thorough search for potential victims could not be conducted safely. However, multiple indicators suggested that a victim may have been trapped inside.

As the situation developed, the San Jose Police Department Homicide Unit was called to assist. Tragically, on Tuesday, a body was discovered within the structure by members of the SJPD Crime Scene Unit and the SJFD Urban Search and Rescue teams. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, adding to the urgency and tragedy of the incident.
