URGENT UPDATE: Significant street closures and parking restrictions are now in effect in Geneva, Illinois, for the highly anticipated Festival of the Vine, running from Friday, Sept. 5, to Sunday, Sept. 7. The Geneva Police Department has announced these measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for festival-goers.
The festival, a celebration of food, wine, and beer, alongside musical entertainment and a craft fair, is centered around the Kane County Courthouse located at 100 S. Third St.. With the city of Geneva as a presenting sponsor, local officials are preparing for a large turnout this weekend.
Starting Wednesday, Sept. 3, critical roadways will be closed to through traffic. Specifically, James Street from the middle of the 300 block to Fifth Street, and Fourth Street from the middle of the first block to James Street will be affected. Parking restrictions on these streets will begin at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
As the festival progresses, additional closures will take effect. From Saturday, Sept. 6, Campbell Street between Third and Fourth Streets will also close to through traffic, with parking restrictions in place starting at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5. Further restrictions will apply on Fifth Street and James Street late on Thursday, Sept. 4.
Parking access for local businesses will remain available on James and Fourth Streets, but vehicles parked in restricted areas may face ticketing or towing. Additionally, parking is prohibited within 20 feet of intersections or crosswalks, increasing the need for awareness among drivers.
To enhance safety and monitoring, authorities have confirmed that a law enforcement drone may be deployed during the festival, providing real-time aerial oversight.
These restrictions will remain in place until 3 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, allowing for a smooth post-festival transition. Parking restrictions will be lifted following the festival’s conclusion on Sunday, Sept. 7.
