The Springfield Public School concert choir, directed by Bailey Cords, has received an invitation to perform at the annual convention of the Minnesota Music Education Association on February 13, 2024. This prestigious event will take place at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The choir’s performance, themed “Rise Together in Song—Celebrating Music Education in a Rural Community,” highlights the importance of music education in less urbanized areas. This marks a significant achievement for the group, which last performed at this convention in 1993.
In other academic news, Iowa State University celebrated its fall graduates, including Brenden Paul Humbard from New Ulm, who earned a bachelor of science degree in animal science. This accomplishment reflects the dedication and hard work of students in the field.
Meanwhile, Northern Illinois University recognized outstanding academic performance, naming Catherine Cummings of Mankato to its fall dean’s list. At Western Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Saige Isaacson, also from New Ulm, earned a place on the president’s list of high distinction for the fall term. This accolade is reserved for students achieving a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while enrolled in a minimum of six credits in an associate’s degree or technical diploma program.
Additionally, Emily Frutos Krueger of Mankato was recognized at the University of Hartford in Connecticut, making both the dean’s list and the president’s list. The dean’s list recognizes students who achieve a GPA of at least 3.0 with no grade below a C, while the president’s list honors those who maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher with grades of C or better.
