In a recent episode of KBS’s “Problem Child In House,” former TYPHOON member Solbi shared her emotional journey following a fabricated sex video scandal that significantly impacted her life. The incident, known as the “Solbi Video,” emerged in 2009 and caused a considerable decline in her public image, despite the video not featuring her.
Solbi recounted the distressing experience, stating, “Back in 2009, there was a ‘video leak.’ It even used my name, being called the ‘Solbi video.’ But it was not me in that video.” At that time, it was one of the first instances of a fake video circulating in South Korea, leaving her without guidance on how to address the situation. She attempted to file a police report, but authorities were unable to trace the original uploader, only those who shared the video.
The emotional toll of the incident led to severe consequences for Solbi. “Honestly, I was so scared back then that I couldn’t even think straight,” she explained. The overwhelming fear of public scrutiny led to her developing depression and social anxiety. She described how her then-boyfriend ended their relationship after his parents discovered the scandal, adding, “Even though I was the victim, I don’t think they wanted their son dating someone involved in such a scandal.”
As Solbi navigated through this challenging period, she found solace in therapy and the pursuit of new hobbies. “To overcome it, I went hiking, learned drums, did flower arranging, and eventually received psychological counseling,” she shared. It was during this time that she discovered a passion for art, which became a vital outlet for her emotions. “As I expressed my wounds through art, even hate comments became material for my artwork,” she noted.
Now a celebrated artist, Solbi has turned her experiences into creative inspiration. This past March, she held her solo exhibition titled “Flowers From Heaven,” showcasing her artistic evolution. In April, she further expanded her career by participating in a special invitational exhibition in Porto, Portugal.
Solbi’s transformation from a victim of a scandal to a thriving artist highlights her resilience and ability to find beauty in adversity. Her journey serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health support and the healing potential of creative expression.
