Rooney Mara stars in Columbia Pictures' "THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO," also starring Daniel Craig.

Sky has officially announced the production of an eight-part television series based on the globally acclaimed novel series, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The announcement was made on March 5, 2024, revealing that the show will be produced by Left Bank Pictures, known for their work on renowned series such as The Crown and Dept Q. This new adaptation aims to provide a “bold and contemporary reimagining” that connects the themes of the original novels to modern-day issues.

The series will draw from the Millennium novels by Stieg Larsson, which have sold over 100 million copies worldwide. The original book, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, was previously adapted into a film in 2011, directed by David Fincher and featuring actors Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. The film followed the story of disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the enigmatic hacker Lisbeth Salander as they sought to unravel a decades-old cold case.

Production for the new series is scheduled to begin in Lithuania during the spring of 2024. While specific casting details have yet to be revealed, the creative team includes writers and executive producers Steve Lightfoot, known for The Punisher, and Angela LaManna, who has worked on The Haunting of Bly Manor. Additional executive producers are Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore, and John Phillips from Left Bank Pictures, along with Sam Hoyle for Sky.

The series will be available for viewers in the U.K., Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. International distribution will be managed by Sony Pictures Television, which has already begun pre-sale efforts in the United States. This new project promises to engage audiences with its fresh perspective while remaining true to the core elements that have made Larsson’s work so compelling.

As anticipation builds for this upcoming adaptation, it remains clear that the story of Blomkvist and Salander continues to resonate, reflecting societal themes that are increasingly relevant in today’s world.
