The SGMC Health Foundation has funded a new 2025 Starcraft Bus to improve transportation for residents of the SGMC Health Villa, a skilled nursing facility located in Lakeland. This initiative aims to enhance mobility and provide residents with greater access to a variety of activities beyond the facility.

Improving Access and Independence

The newly acquired bus, which accommodates 12 passengers along with two wheelchair positions, ensures that all residents, including those with mobility challenges, can engage in outings and attend appointments comfortably. The addition of this bus opens up opportunities for more frequent excursions, whether for scenic drives, local events, or medical visits, significantly enriching the residents’ lives.

“Reliable transportation is essential to maintaining the dignity, independence, and well-being of our residents,” stated Hilary Gibbs, vice president of support services and chief development officer at SGMC Health. “This bus represents our commitment to improving the lives of those we serve and supporting the caregivers who make it all possible. And let’s be honest — everyone enjoys a new ride, no matter their age!”

Supporting Care and Community Engagement

In addition to serving the residents, the bus will also support SGMC Health’s Non-Emergency Transport team during peak workloads and assist with SGMC Health Lanier transports as needed. This multi-faceted use of the vehicle underscores the foundation’s dedication to improving overall care within the community.

SGMC Health Villa is a 62-bed skilled nursing facility that emphasizes compassionate care in a warm, home-like environment. The facility is committed to providing high-quality support tailored to individual needs, whether for short-term rehabilitation, long-term care, or hospice services.
