Scott Hamilton, the renowned figure skater and 1984 Olympic gold medalist, is set to host a festive ice show and “Frozen 5K” fundraising event in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Scheduled for December 20, 2025, at the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills, the event aims to raise funds for cancer research and support through the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation.
Hamilton’s connection to the cause stems from his personal battle with testicular cancer in the 1990s. In 2014, he established the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation to fund innovative, patient-centered treatments that combat cancer while maintaining patients’ quality of life. One of the organization’s notable fundraising efforts is the Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer ice shows, which feature Hamilton and other elite athletes performing across the United States.
The holiday ice show will commence at 19:00, with Hamilton serving as emcee for an evening filled with performances by Olympians such as Mariah Bell, Ashley Cain, and Polina Edmunds. Ticket prices range from $32.75 to $79, with proceeds benefiting both the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation and the UT Southwestern Medical Center.
The city of North Richland Hills describes the event on social media as “a celebration of hope, resilience, and community.” Attendees can expect stunning performances that encapsulate the holiday spirit while also contributing to a meaningful cause.
Opportunities to engage beyond spectating include participation in the “Frozen 5K” set for December 21. Participants can register for $35 to skate 35 laps in honor of those impacted by cancer. Registration includes a commemorative T-shirt, and additional donations can provide access to exclusive Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer merchandise.
Incentives specific to the DFW area enhance the fundraising experience, offering packages such as an autographed program for $500 and a VIP meet-and-greet along with an autographed program for $1,000. Top fundraisers may even have the opportunity to perform at the holiday ice show.
As ice rinks gain popularity during the holiday season, Hamilton’s event arrives at an opportune moment. Pop-up rinks are drawing families across the region, from Grapevine to Garland and the newly opened CultureMap City Rink in downtown Dallas.
This holiday ice show not only showcases exceptional athletic talent but also highlights the importance of community support in the ongoing fight against cancer.
