Santino Marella, a current employee of TNA and former WWE Intercontinental Champion, expressed strong confidence in the future of TNA if the organization secures a new television deal. During an interview with Lucha Libre Online, Marella emphasized the potential for TNA to position itself as the second-largest wrestling promotion in the industry, particularly following the success of their recent event, Bound for Glory.
Marella stated, “We’re going to capitalize on the BFG audience. We’re going to send the message out to the world. We’re here. We’re knocking on that door. You better look out because once we get that TV deal, we’re number two, man.” He acknowledged the financial strength of competitors like Tony Khan but insisted that fan engagement ultimately determines rankings in the wrestling world.
TNA’s head, Carlos Silva, has publicly discussed aspirations to secure a new TV deal, with reports indicating conversations with networks such as The CW and A&E, leveraging TNA’s existing partnerships with WWE. Marella noted that while WWE currently holds a significant lead in the market, he believes that achieving the number two position is within reach. “Of course, WWE is number one. They’re so far ahead that we’ll never catch it in my lifetime. Number two is attainable, number two is really something we can do. If we accomplish that, that’s humongous,” he said.
The former champion also shared insights about his experience in TNA, advocating for wrestlers who leave WWE to consider joining TNA. He believes that the environment at TNA can help these athletes rediscover their passion for wrestling.
In addition to discussing the organization’s prospects, Marella reflected on his recent interaction with Mr. Iguana during an AAA event. He expressed enthusiasm about potentially teaming up with the rising star, stating, “I’d love to team with him.”
As TNA looks ahead, Marella’s comments underscore a sense of optimism within the organization, especially regarding its potential to grow and attract a larger audience. With the right television deal, TNA could solidify its place as a major player in the wrestling industry, marking a significant shift in the competitive landscape.
