Samsung Electronics has launched its first tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, marking a significant advancement in foldable technology. This innovative device features a unique dual-fold design that opens up to reveal a stunning 10.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, effectively transforming it into a near-tablet sized screen. Scheduled for release in South Korea on December 12, 2025, the Galaxy Z TriFold will start at approximately KRW 3,590,400 (around US$2,500).
The TriFold is engineered for productivity and creativity, making it an ideal choice for multitasking and media consumption. Unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold7, which features a single fold, the TriFold’s dual-fold mechanism offers enhanced flexibility and screen space. It is powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform as the Fold 7, paired with 16GB of RAM and storage options of up to 1TB. The device is supported by a robust 5,600 mAh battery, designed to provide all-day performance and support for 45W fast charging.
Innovative Design and User-Centric Features
Samsung’s approach to the Galaxy Z TriFold reflects years of research and refinement in foldable technology. The device maintains a slim profile, measuring just 3.9 mm at its thinnest point, while delivering flagship performance. Its unique hinge design incorporates two hinges of different sizes, stabilizing the fold and ensuring a smooth opening and closing experience.
The inward folding layout protects the main display when the device is closed, with an automatic alert system that notifies users of any incorrect folds through on-screen warnings and vibrations. This thoughtful design enhances usability and contributes to an intuitive user experience.
With a main display size of 10 inches, the Galaxy Z TriFold supports multitasking capabilities that can significantly enhance productivity. Users can engage with three portrait-sized apps simultaneously or resize windows for optimal workflow. For instance, an architect can efficiently review blueprints, draft proposals, and take measurements all within one workspace.
Expanding Mobile Capabilities with Advanced Features
The Galaxy Z TriFold introduces standalone Samsung DeX, enabling users to access a full working environment on the go. This system allows up to four workspaces, each capable of running multiple applications concurrently, facilitating a desktop-like experience from a mobile device. Users can also connect to an external monitor for an extended workspace, further enhancing productivity.
Samsung has optimized core applications such as My Files and Samsung Health for the larger display, improving navigation and information clarity. Additionally, the device leverages advanced AI features to streamline tasks. The Gemini Live application interprets user interactions, providing contextual assistance without the need to switch apps.
With a robust camera system, including a 200 MP main camera and a comprehensive battery management system, the Galaxy Z TriFold is designed to handle demanding tasks with ease. The device’s visual performance is further enhanced by its Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover screen, which boasts a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and brightness levels of up to 2600 nits.
The launch of the Galaxy Z TriFold highlights Samsung’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile innovation, combining cutting-edge technology with user-centric design. The device is set to make waves in the smartphone market, appealing to users seeking a versatile tool for both work and play.
