UPDATE: Richard “Dick” Johnson, a cherished figure in the Centralia community, has passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on August 6, 2025, at Providence Hospital. His death marks the end of an era for those who knew him as an avid outdoorsman and a dedicated family man.
Born on July 21, 1933, in Tacoma, Washington, Dick Johnson was a passionate advocate for the environment and an integral part of the local forestry community. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie Belcher, of Randle, WA, along with his son, Timothy Johnson of Onalaska, WA, and stepdaughter, Jennifer Mullins of Chehalis, WA. He leaves behind two grandchildren, Kayla and Kylea Johnson, who will remember him as a devoted grandfather.
Dick’s legacy extends beyond family; he served with the U.S. Forest Service in Randle from 1966 until his retirement in 1994. His love for the woods and the friendships he formed during those years were central to his life, inspiring countless stories that he shared until his last moments.
A proud veteran, Dick dedicated two years of service in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. An adventurer at heart, he climbed notable peaks including Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens before its infamous eruption in 1980. His passion for hunting elk and deer, particularly during trips to Wyoming, illustrated his deep connection to nature.
In addition to his forestry career, Dick was a tireless worker who drove log trucks, operated forklifts, and even worked at White Pass Ski Resort for 20 years to ensure his children could ski for free. He built his home and converted a shake mill into a tree farm, showcasing his unwavering work ethic.
A celebration of Dick Johnson’s life is scheduled for September 20, 2025, at their beloved tree farm on Peters Road in Randle, WA. The event will start at noon and will feature a potluck, inviting all who knew him to honor his memory.
Dick’s adventurous spirit, dedication to family, and love of the great outdoors will be profoundly missed.
