Steven Andrew Kovacs, aged 73, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Surrounded by loved ones, Kovacs left behind a legacy marked by his passion for music, teaching, and a deep commitment to family.
Kovacs enjoyed a successful career in sales and education, notably at Dakota Tech. His love for music was nurtured from an early age, blossoming into a vibrant part of his life. He participated in the White Bear Lake High School choir and liturgical music, eventually leading several bands, including The Four Coachmen, 1st Things 1st, and JS Trio.
In addition to music, Kovacs had a deep appreciation for woodworking and sports, particularly golf. He spent cherished moments at the family lake home with his wife, Deb Kovacs, creating lasting memories in a setting he loved.
Kovacs is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Kovacs. He is survived by his wife, Deb; sons, Andrew and Patrick (Megan); grandchildren, Casey and Dylan; as well as sisters, Gail Ward, Sue Pearson, and Jody Jarvis; and brother, John Kovacs. The family extends special thanks to Jody Jarvis for her compassionate support in providing home hospice care.
Celebration of Life Scheduled
A Celebration of Steven Andrew Kovacs’s life will take place at 14:00 on January 6, 2026. The event will be held at Starkson Family ~ Anderson Chapel, located at 14850 Garrett Ave., Apple Valley, MN 55124. Attendees are welcome for visitation one hour prior to the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or directed to the St. Scholastica Convent, which can be found online at www.sbm.osb.org.
Kovacs’s enduring spirit and love for music will be remembered by all who knew him, leaving a significant impact on his community and family.
