David “Dave” Platt, a dedicated professional and passionate individual, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, after a brief illness. He was born on June 14, 1955, in Whittier, California, where he enjoyed a vibrant childhood filled with activities such as Scouting, Little League Baseball, and family camping trips.
Dave graduated from Calhi School in 1973 and later pursued higher education at Sonoma State University, where he earned a degree in Anthropology in 1978. His journey took him from Southern California to Northern California, where he married his first wife, Jan Vogee. After completing his studies, he moved to the Santa Cruz area, where he built a life that included another marriage to Ailene Platt and the joy of raising a daughter.
Professional Achievements and Community Involvement
Known for his commitment to workplace safety, Dave held the title of Certified Safety Professional (CSP) for the state of California. He was often referred to as “The Safety Guy,” a testament to his dedication to teaching employers how to create safe work environments. His work had a significant impact on many lives, as he focused on preventing injuries and ensuring the well-being of workers across various industries.
Throughout his life, Dave was actively involved in his community. He was a founding member of the Whittier Boys Club, where he contributed his time and energy to support local youth. His passion for photography, cooking, fishing, gardening, and music enriched not only his life but also the lives of those around him. He attended numerous concerts, sharing his love for music with friends and family.
In 2019, Dave relocated to Sequim, Washington, where he spent his final years with his wife, Merribeth Platt, whom he married in 2006. He is also survived by his daughter, Carolanne Baker, his sister, son-in-law, mother-in-law, three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, three nephews, and two step-grandchildren, along with other extended family members. His parents, Arthur and Marian Platt, preceded him in death.
