Arturo O. Valencia, affectionately known as “Art,” passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, he exemplified hard work, resilience, and a profound commitment to his family throughout his life. Art was 94 years old at the time of his passing.
A Legacy of Family and Love
Predeceased by his beloved wife, Nellie Valencia, with whom he shared more than 73 years of marriage, Art leaves behind a legacy of love and family. Together, they raised four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo. His devotion extended to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who he cherished deeply.
Art was also predeceased by his sister, Lola Gonzalez, and brothers Alex, Raymond, and John. He is survived by his siblings, Tito and Choco, who remember him fondly.
Passions and Accomplishments
Beyond his dedication to family, Art found joy in various pursuits. He frequently camped at Glen Ivy, creating lasting memories with his loved ones. An avid bowler, he competed for over 40 years at the Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl. His athleticism extended to men’s softball, where he played in a league at Torrance Park during the 1960s. Renowned for his skill, he also excelled as a pool player, winning numerous tournaments and earning respect in the Torrance community.
Art’s upbringing in Torrance, specifically in La Rana, fostered his strong sense of community. He attended Torrance High School and later embarked on a successful career marked by hard work and dedication. He spent 20 years at Soule’ Steel in Carson before transitioning to a role as a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas. His precision and dedication in this position garnered him great respect and numerous accolades.
As a self-made man, Art rose from humble beginnings to cultivate a life rich in love and purpose. He took immense pride in restoring and maintaining his home, with each project reflecting his craftsmanship and care. A voracious reader and lifelong subscriber to the Daily Breeze, he found joy in literature and took particular pleasure in knowing that his sons once delivered the very paper he cherished.
Though Arturo O. Valencia is no longer with us, his spirit remains alive in the stories shared by those who loved him, the lessons he imparted, and the unwavering affection he offered to all.
Services in honor of Art will be held at 4 PM on October 27, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934.
