Light-rail commuters heading into Downtown Pittsburgh on the morning of March 4, 2024, will experience disruptions due to maintenance work. The Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) has announced that inbound T service will bypass the Steel Plaza station and terminate at Penn Station while crews repair overhead electrical lines.
Passengers traveling beyond Penn Station should anticipate delays of at least 20 minutes. To facilitate travel deeper into Downtown, PRT will operate shuttle buses that will run along Liberty Avenue, stopping at both Gateway and Wood Street stations, which will not have rail service during this period.
At Gateway station, commuters can resume their journey on the T to the North Shore, with regular stops at North Side and Allegheny Station. Additionally, there will be a shuttle bus service connecting Gateway back to Penn Station. For those heading to the South Hills, outbound trains will still be available at Penn Station.
PRT has indicated that regular T service will resume for the Tuesday morning commute. Passengers are advised to plan accordingly and allow extra time for their journeys during this maintenance period.
