URGENT UPDATE: The Pope John Paul II High School Legacy of Impact Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at 7 PM in Norristown, PA. This highly anticipated event will honor five remarkable individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities and the world of sports.
Among the inductees is Jim Shaffer, a legendary coach at Archbishop Kennedy High School, who not only led his teams to numerous victories but also established the AMBUCS Stars Special Olympics basketball team in 1988. His influence extends beyond the basketball court, as he has dedicated his life to mentoring young athletes and making a difference in their lives. Shaffer’s impactful coaching career includes a Bicentennial League title and two District 1 championships, making him a beloved figure in local sports.
Also being inducted is the 1976 Bishop Kenrick High School boys’ basketball team, renowned for their Cinderella story in the Philadelphia Catholic League. This underdog team defied the odds, defeating the formidable West Catholic team to secure the championship in a thrilling game at the Palestra. Their victory is a testament to teamwork, confidence, and perseverance, and it remains a cherished memory for fans and players alike.
In addition, Charles “Mr. Mac” McPherson will be honored for his extensive contributions to youth sports and the Norristown community. An influential figure, he has served as a coach, athletic director, and community leader, positively impacting countless lives. His legacy of integrity and selflessness continues to inspire future generations.
The induction ceremony will also recognize Alyssa Neilson Borzillo, a standout athlete from the Class of 2006, Rick Keeley, from the Class of 1971, and Douglas T. Dunn, a devoted teacher at PJP and St. Pius X. Their achievements and dedication to their respective fields have left an indelible mark on the school and the community.
