A swift police response led to the arrest of a woman already wanted by authorities in Wilmington, Delaware, following an alleged burglary on January 6, 2024. The Wilmington Police Department reported that an officer from its Special Operations Division was in the 800 block of North Shipley Street at approximately 09:39 when they were alerted to a recent burglary.

After gathering a description of the suspect, the officer initiated a canvass of the nearby area. Within a short period, the officer identified a woman matching the description in the 100 block of Burton Place. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Emily Popkey, was approached and taken into custody without incident.

According to authorities, Popkey faces charges of third-degree burglary and theft under $1,500, in addition to having an outstanding warrant. Following her arrest, she was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and subsequently committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution with a secured bail set at $4,000.

The police have emphasized that these charges are allegations, and Popkey is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
