Philip Morris International’s U.S. operations, referred to as PMI U.S., has initiated the “Thanks for Giving” campaign, aiming to inspire Americans to recognize and support charitable organizations dedicated to enhancing community welfare. Announced in Stamford, Connecticut, on November 20, 2025, this national call to action coincides with the Thanksgiving holiday and #GivingTuesday, emphasizing the importance of ongoing generosity throughout the year.
The “Thanks for Giving” campaign seeks to highlight the contributions of both national nonprofits and local organizations that tirelessly work to strengthen communities across the United States. Marian Salzman, Senior Vice President at PMI U.S. and a co-founder of GivingTuesday in 2012, remarked, “#GivingTuesday started as a single day of goodwill, but the true impact comes when generosity—and accountability with those investments—becomes part of our everyday behavior.” She emphasized that PMI U.S. has exceeded $35 million in charitable contributions since 2022, with employee participation in community programs increasing by 400 percent.
In 2025, PMI U.S. allocated nearly $12 million to over 500 organizations supporting various community initiatives. This included contributions of more than $3.7 million for veterans and military support, over $2.4 million for economic empowerment, more than $1.3 million dedicated to disaster relief, and over $1.1 million for arts and culture. Such funding enables these organizations to effect meaningful change at the community level.
The campaign showcases PMI U.S.’s partnership with TAPS, a nonprofit that provides essential support to those grieving military losses. Bonnie Carroll, TAPS Founder and President, noted that PMI U.S.’s 2025 contributions significantly enhanced TAPS’ ability to offer immediate care through various programs, including a 24/7 National Military Survivor Helpline. The organization has seen an average of 26 new survivors reaching out each day, totaling 7,136 in 2025 alone.
PMI U.S. has also been a key partner of AdvanceCT, an organization focused on bolstering Connecticut’s economy. John Bourdeaux, President and CEO of AdvanceCT, stated, “PMI U.S.’s partnership is foundational to AdvanceCT’s mission to build a stronger, more prosperous Connecticut.” The contributions from PMI U.S. have been instrumental in attracting corporate investments, creating nearly 5,000 new jobs and more than $843 million in capital investment during 2024.
In addition, a $1 million donation from PMI U.S. enabled the Los Angeles County Fire Department to procure a new wildland fire engine for the West Altadena community, which suffered significantly from the January 2025 Eaton Fire. Anthony C. Marrone, Fire Chief of LACoFD, highlighted that the donation not only provided essential equipment but also supported residents affected by the disaster, including funding for the Chaplains Benevolent Fund.
The “Thanks for Giving” campaign also emphasizes PMI U.S.’s WeCare program, which empowers employees to nominate nonprofits for company-supported donations. In 2025, this initiative directed over $1.86 million to more than 400 local organizations across 44 states and the District of Columbia. Noteworthy is the story of Jeff Day, a PMI U.S. stockroom attendant who championed the Boulware Mission, which supports men facing homelessness and mental health challenges. His advocacy helped direct over $200,000 in company funds to the mission, with Executive Director David Gaynor expressing gratitude for the transformative impact of PMI U.S.’s contributions.
The “Thanks for Giving” campaign reflects PMI U.S.’s approach to pragmatic philanthropy, which prioritizes listening, impactful investments, and collaboration to support organizations engaged in meaningful work.
PMI U.S. remains committed to improving lives and fostering a smoke-free future as part of its broader corporate mission. The company employs over 3,000 people across the United States and operates manufacturing facilities in locations such as Owensboro, Kentucky, and Wilson, North Carolina.
