Philadelphia is set to ring in 2025 with an electrifying celebration featuring waterfront fireworks and a major concert headlined by hip-hop legend LL Cool J. As December 31, 2024 approaches, city officials anticipate tens of thousands of attendees in Center City for the festivities. The event promises to be one of the largest New Year’s Eve celebrations in recent years.

The Visit PA New Year’s Eve Fireworks on the Waterfront will illuminate the Delaware River with two spectacular displays scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and midnight. Fireworks will be visible from Penn’s Landing and surrounding waterfront areas. In response to expected heavy congestion, city and transit officials are advising both residents and visitors to avoid driving.

To facilitate transit, SEPTA encourages the use of public transport. The Market-Frankford Line can be taken to 2nd Street Station, while several bus routes, including 5, 12, 17, 21, 25, 33, and 42, will provide access to the waterfront.

First Outdoor New Year’s Eve Concert

In a historic first, Philadelphia will host an outdoor New Year’s Eve concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, featuring LL Cool J as the headline act. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m., with the concert scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. Joining him on stage will be renowned artists such as DJ Jazzy Jeff, Adam Blackstone, Dorothy, and Technician The DJ.

As the city gears up for the celebrations, SEPTA is implementing modified service schedules to accommodate the influx of attendees. On New Year’s Eve, Regional Rail trains will operate on a weekday schedule, with additional late-night services on several lines including Chestnut Hill East and Trenton. Riders are advised to check specific train schedules for detailed departure times and accessibility options.

Transit Adjustments and Mummers Parade Preparations

The transit adjustments will extend into the following day, as preparations begin for the Mummers Parade. On January 1, 2025, SEPTA will operate on a Sunday schedule, with certain bus routes, such as Route 204, not in service. Bus routes 4, 16, 17, 27, 31, 32, 33, 38, 44, 48, 62, 124, 125, B1 Owl, and L1 Owl will experience detours starting at 8:15 a.m. on New Year’s Day, particularly on 15th Street between JFK Boulevard and Chestnut Street.

As fireworks light up the night sky and the sounds of live music fill the air, Philadelphia is preparing for a celebratory atmosphere unmatched in recent memory. With a combination of vibrant entertainment and essential transit updates, city officials are ensuring that this New Year’s Eve will be a memorable occasion for all.
