BREAKING: Phil Olivier, a cherished educator and musician, passed away peacefully early this morning, December 1, 2025, in Santa Cruz, California, after a prolonged illness. His legacy touches countless lives, marking a profound loss for family, friends, and the community.

Born on August 16, 1937, in San Francisco, Phil dedicated his life to teaching and music, inspiring generations of students during his 29-year tenure at Bradley School in Corralitos. He began his career at Kensington School in Berkeley, where he met his beloved wife, Kaye Olivier. Together, they raised two sons, Scot and Jordan, and created cherished family memories, including summer camping trips across the western United States and two weeks each year in the Sierra Nevada.

Phil’s passion for life was evident in everything he did—from his impressive bass-baritone voice, showcased in over 30 years with the Cabrillo Chorus, to his love for hiking, photography, and travel. His zest for exploration took him far and wide, including journeys to Europe, Africa, and the Hawaiian Islands.

Family was at the heart of Phil’s life. He is survived by his wife, Kaye, sons Scot and Jordan, daughter Robin, daughters-in-law Jong and Jill, and grandchildren Andrew, Kelsey, Ryan, Sean, Rachel, Noah, and Matteo. He was predeceased by his son Christopher and brother Barry. His infectious laughter and humor will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

The Olivier family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Adam Yarme, Hospice of Santa Cruz County, and caregiver Cameron for their compassionate care during Phil’s final moments.

A memorial service will be held at St John’s Episcopal Church in Aptos on January 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phil’s name to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the SPCA of Santa Cruz County.

Phil Olivier leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. His impact will resonate through the generations he inspired and the family he cherished.
