Four-star quarterback Peyton Falzone has officially signed with Penn State, expressing his desire for Terry Smith to be appointed as the head coach. Falzone’s decision is particularly notable as he previously considered offers from Virginia Tech and Auburn before choosing to join the Nittany Lions program.
In a video interview shared by Mark Wogenrich, a publisher at Sports Illustrated covering Penn State, Falzone highlighted Smith’s influence on his choice. “I try to figure out the head coach position. I’m very hopeful it’s coach Smith. He’s a great guy and I think he can lead the team,” Falzone stated. He emphasized that Smith has not only gained his family’s trust but has also won the hearts of his teammates.
Falzone, who hails from Nazareth High School, conveyed his readiness to give his all for Penn State, regardless of who ultimately fills the head coach role. “They’re going to get a quarterback who’s going to do whatever it takes to win,” he remarked, indicating his commitment to the team. “Whether it’s run the ball 30 times or throw the ball downfield. You know, we’re going to get the ‘W’.”
In a separate video shared on social media by D11sports.com, Falzone acknowledged the role of Trace McSorley, the assistant quarterbacks coach at Penn State and a former standout quarterback for the Nittany Lions during their 2016 Big Ten championship season. “I mean, I’m a Pennsylvania kid. It’s close to home, not too close, easy to come out and have my family support me there,” he said, underscoring the importance of family support in his decision-making process.
Falzone’s commitment comes at a pivotal time for Penn State, as the university continues its search for a new head coach following the departure of James Franklin. Smith, currently serving as the interim head coach, has been a key figure in the program and has garnered significant support from players like Falzone.
As the Nittany Lions prepare for their upcoming seasons, Falzone’s enthusiasm and commitment could signal a strong future for the program, particularly if Smith is confirmed as the permanent head coach. With his signing, Falzone aims to contribute significantly to the team’s success in the competitive landscape of college football.
